Creating a noise that can't be ignored – AMPLIFY!
Giving people a voice and a chance to shape services they receive as well as local and national level politics is the only way to eliminate poverty and inequality in Scotland. We're starting to test, innovate and scale different models to do this. We want to break the cycle of political underrepresentation; people think that politics doesn’t affect them so don’t get involved, politicians/policy makers don’t think about their needs so make policy that affects them negatively. Unless we break this cycle, policy making will not change. We believe that by enabling meaningful participation we can build a fairer more just Scotland.
We're planning an event to kick start this work, given our core beliefs that people have the answers if they’re given the space and support would be able to shape the services and democracy that they need. We want to bring people together, using innovative participation methods, to define the main challenges of participation and start a debate on how to shift engagement.
Date: 10th or 17th June venue dependent
Time 10am – 4pm
Location: Govanhill, Glasgow
Attendees: Local community, Policy makers, politicians, NGO’s/Think tanks working in this field
Objectives of the day
Define what the challenges/barriers are to engagement
Define what some of the solutions are to engagement
Create opportunities for different groups of people to mix
Start to build a team to take some of this work forward
We're looking for people to join the core team to help shape the event, we'd welcome
Inspirational facilitators who can bring together diverse groups and empower them to share the knowledge they've got in building a more participative and engaged society.
Great networkers that can develop the invite list and make sure we’ve got a diverse mix of people in the room
Social media amplifier to make sure that we're spreading the message and that as many people as possible can attended our event. If you had some awesome video skills and could produce a video after the event even better
Logistics wizz who is able to organize an event on a tight deadline
Core team commitment would be three hours a week in the build up to the event including fortnightly Skype catch ups
Participation and involvement runs through this whole process so there would be significant opportunity to help shape and design the day.
Wouldn’t need to be based in Glasgow, although for some roles it would help. Those who aren’t I can provide sofa bed/food/wine.
We’re looking for partners to support the event, we’d welcome
Organisations that work with a diverse group of people who could support them to attend
Organisations that have some great facilitators/methods of participation that would like to help run the day
Organisations that would like to support the day, venue hire, catering, resources etc.
